ultrasonography
Ultrasonography is performed in men, as well as women. It uses ultrasonic sound waves to examine the reproductive structures. The reflection of these waves is used to produce an image on a monitor so that your doctor can ‘see’ images of internal structures. Ultrasonography may help identify possible blockages or growths in the most important reproductive organs. For example, varicose veins (expanded blood vessels) can be identified by using this technique to examine the scrotum.
reason for the examination
Ultrasonography can be used to find a blockage in the male reproductive tract. It is also possible that varicocele (clump of varicose veins) may be detected.
the examination
A small ultrasound probe is placed against the scrotum or in the rectum.
