occlusion

In men, an occlusion (blockage or obstruction) in the epididymis or the vas deferens (sperm ducts) can prevent the sperm from reaching the ejaculate.

Occlusion can only be detected by examination of the vas deferens for example during an ultrasonography.

treatment

One available treatment option is called a vaso-vasectomy - a procedure in which the doctor removes the blockage to restore the continuity of the vas deferens, allowing sperm to flow from the testicles into the semen. A biopsy of the testicles can also be carried out to obtain sperm cells for IVF and ICSI.
