the right doctor

It often takes some time – and can be a source of some tension in the relationship - before a couple can admit to each other that they have a fertility problem, and then decide to seek medical help. Once they have done so, they often go to their general practitioner (GP). This is a good place to start. If necessary, the GP can set up an exploratory fertility examination. He/she will also assess whether there are reasons to refer you to a gynaecologist, or perhaps directly to a fertility clinic for further investigation.

The information in this section helps you to answer the question: “When to seek treatment?” You will also find an explanation on the role of the various doctors that you and your partner may see, and learn how you can improve your situation by preparing for fertility consultations.
